2018 is tipped to see a growing trend in British demand for local, traceable food and drink and West Sussex producers are being offered a sales boost through a new Taste West Sussex project, aimed at helping them build their skills and grow their markets.

Free ‘Get Ready to Sell’ workshops are being held for West Sussex food and drink producers in early 2018 providing direct, practical help to improve their business strategies, production processes, marketing and direct sales, organised by Natural Partnerships CIC and funded by West Sussex County Council.

The project will culminate in a Meet the Buyer event on 26th February 2018 to help producers sell to a wide range of buyers from hospitality, retail and wholesale who are interested in buying the county’s superb local fare.

Councillor Louise Goldsmith, Leader of West Sussex County Council, said, “2018 is the year to really put local produce at the heart of our county’s food and drink offer for residents and visitors alike. This year the County Council is celebrating ten years of our Taste West Sussex magazine and we are marking the occasion by putting more investment into supporting our food and drink producers in a way which will really help to take them forward and grow, through training and help with accessing new markets.”

Said Hilary Knight, Co-director of Natural Partnerships CIC, “You might make the most delicious product in the world, but a recent survey showed that buyers from retail, wholesale and hospitality businesses find that local producers don’t always have everything ready to be able to sell to them, however good their product is.

“This might be that your pricing isn’t quite right; you don’t have the right certificates to meet their health and hygiene procurement rules; or your marketing and packaging needs to be more appealing to customers. Or perhaps you’ve got all this right, but just need a refresher to make sure you’re bang up to date – either way, we are inviting producers to sign up now, as places are limited!”

All producers in the county of West Sussex are welcome to participate in this free project to provide extra support and can sign up at: www.businesswestsussex.co.uk/taste or sign up direct at: conta.cc/2Ag7PMz

West Sussex has a superb range of produce, including world award winning cheeses, unrivalled sparkling wine and all kinds of artisan products including everything from pies to chutneys and fruit juices to ales.
