LEADER funding has provided more than £2.8 million of grants to rural businesses and community groups in the Sussex Downs & Low Weald and Three Harbours & Coastal Plain LEADER areas. The grants supported a wide range of projects including:

  • purchase of equipment and development of premises to support business growth;
  • farm diversification and modernisation;
  • community shops and other rural community facilities.

The 2 existing LEADER groups will be bidding to Defra for more funding for 2015-20 to continue the good work. The proposed new LEADER areas would cover:

  • rural West Sussex;
  • Lewes District;
  • rural parts of Hayling Island.

We do hope that you are able to attend. We are particularly keen to engage with farming, forestry and small rural businesses as well as rural communities. This is an opportunity for you to find out how a new LEADER programme could help you and for you to help shape our bid to Defra.

To book your place, please email rdpeleader@westsussex.gov.uk indicating the workshop you wish to attend.

If you can’t attend a workshop but would like to be involved please contact Richard Chalk at richard.chalk@westsussex.gov.uk or visit the LEADER webpages at www.westsussex.gov.uk/rdpeleader for further information.
