West Sussex County Council plays a key role in supporting businesses, business growth, and the local economy. We have a broad range of services linking with businesses, including trading standards, highway maintenance, workplace health, and business support and grants. West Sussex County Council is committed to supporting businesses and the local economy through:

  • Engaging effectively with local businesses, to better understand and respond to business needs, and to enable the business community to know what can be expected from the County Council’s services
  • Supporting businesses and Social Enterprises to start, stay and grow in West Sussex, including through grant schemes and support activities
  • Supporting local businesses to understand and comply with legislative requirements, and to access the opportunities offered by public sector contracts
  • Promoting and providing career tasters and apprenticeship opportunities
  • Maintaining, monitoring and improving the infrastructure important to businesses, including roads and superfast fibre-based broadband
  • Providing advice to businesses and their employees on health and well-being, workplace health and fire safety.


West Sussex County Council works closely with a broad range of partners to ensure a shared approach to supporting the local economy, including the seven District and Borough councils (Adur District Council, Arun District Council, Chichester District Council, Crawley Borough Council, Horsham District Council, Mid Sussex District Council and Worthing Borough Council).
