Attracting and retaining talent

The Government is incentivising businesses who employ young people to help them get into jobs. There are a few different schemes available to businesses in the county.


Government is currently offering a £3,000 apprenticeship incentive payment to business who start a new apprenticeship between 1st April and 30th September 2021. Find out more.

The Kickstart programme is a Government funded six month employment opportunity for unemployed young people. This scheme is available for new starts up to the end of December 2021. Find out more.

T Levels

T levels are technical education for 16 to 19 year olds which require an unpaid Industry placement with an employer for 20% of their time. Find out more about offering a technical industry placement to a student.


A traineeship is a skills development programme, that includes a work placement. It can last from 6 weeks up to 1 year, though most traineeships last for less than 6 months. Government is currently offering up to ten £1,000 incentive payments to businesses who offer a work placement to a young person on this programme. Find out more about Traineeships.
