Digital Skills

West Sussex County Council recognises the benefits that digital technologies, services and skills have for both businesses and residents.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many small businesses to accelerate their digital plans, moving sales, engagement and communications online – but for many this has been a steep uphill climb with limited capacity or internal skills.

In West Sussex, the District and Borough authorities have agreed to work together to kick-start digital upskilling activities, with funding awarded for a range of digital programmes. Initiatives include Digital Champions to work with SME’s supporting them in their digital journey, upskilling for the Local Authority workforce to better understand the challenges of digital innovation and targeted digital support for the tourism industry.

Following on from the county council’s highly successful Recover and Rise webinar series earlier this year, West Sussex local authorities will be delivering an SME digital adoption series in Autumn 2021. The series will support small businesses to get online and realise their digital potential, and will cover topics including:

  • Getting Online – establishing an online presence
  • Customers & Marketing
  • Systems & Productivity
  • Growth, Expansion & New Products

This series is expected to start in September. All information about the series, individual events and how to register will be hosted on Eventbrite.

There is also a large amount of free online training available to support individuals in developing their digital skills both in their home lives and for the workplace. We have collated a list of the online training, workshops, webinars and courses that you can access for free.
