Mid Sussex Growth Deal

The Mid Sussex Growth Deal is a partnership between West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council which was signed by the Leaders of both Authorities in February 2017.

The Mid Sussex Growth Deal represents a five-year, tailor-made partnership pledge made between the District Council and the County Council, clearly setting out joint priorities to deliver strategic growth in Burgess Hill to bring local improvements for West Sussex residents, businesses and visitors that:

  • are delivered as part of a partnership approach between the public and private sector
  • promote local economic growth, including new homes, new jobs and infrastructure
  • attract and bring together investment
  • provides clear principles for how the Authorities will work together with wider stakeholders.

 

The Growth Deal identifies a package of investment in local development and infrastructure being delivered as part of the Burgess Hill Strategic Growth Programme which will facilitate the transformative change of the town through significant improvements in housing, jobs, infrastructure, social and community facilities.

 

The priorities of the Growth Deal have been identified as the following:

  • Town Centre Regeneration – A £65m private development investment in the regeneration of Burgess Hill centre to deliver a prosperous and attractive destination. The recently submitted proposals include new homes, new jobs, new employment space, a modern retail and leisure uses and a new library building.
  • The Brow – One Public Estate redevelopment opportunity of a centrally located site providing the opportunity to develop a combined ‘blue light centre’, starter homes and a public services hub with land currently in ownership of WSCC, MSDC and wider stakeholders.
  • Northern Arc – Progression of the Strategic Allocation within Burgess Hill Local Plan for 3500 homes and supporting infrastructure including 3 new schools, Local Centres, highway and sustainable transport infrastructure and significant green infrastructure. 
  • Science and Technology Park – Identifying the strategic site within the Mid Sussex Allocations DPD for 100,000sqm of office / light industry / research and development space in a parkland setting to provide a regional focus for high value growth in jobs and industry .
  • A2300 enhancements – Widening of the existing A2300 to provide a duel carriageway link between the towns principle highway routes and the A23 to the west, delivering significant highway capacity improvements to support the identified growth within the town. 
  • Place and Connectivity Programme - A network of public realm and sustainable transport improvements at Burgess Hill developed to support the planned growth and deliver high quality non-car access and connectivity improvements between priority growth areas, significant movement generators and the town centre.
