Chichester Growth Deal

The Chichester Growth Deal builds on the priorities identified within the Chichester Place Plan, which was developed in partnership between West Sussex County Council and Chichester District Council.

The Chichester Growth Deal, signed by the Leaders of both Authorities in April 2017 represents a Five-year, tailor-made partnership pledge between the County Council and the District Council.

The Deal focuses on shared priority projects to bring local improvements for West Sussex and Chichester residents, businesses and visitors that:

  • are delivered through a partnership approach between the public and private sector
  • promote local economic growth, including new homes, jobs and infrastructure
  • attract and bring together investment
  • provides clear principles for how the two Authorities work together.

The Growth Deal identifies a package of investment in infrastructure and development opportunities delivered in line with the Chichester Vision to delivering sustainable growth and unlock opportunities for new homes, new high value commercial and retail and leisure floorspace, preserving existing jobs and creating new jobs, delivering benefits to the local economy.

The partnership between Chichester District Council (CDC) and West Sussex County Council (WSCC) will focus on the following priorities:

  • Chichester City Vision – Key Stakeholder vision for the future of the city and delivery action plan for the development and delivery of an accessible, attractive City centre supporting a vibrant, growing economy and a leading visitor destination.  The Chichester Vision identifies priority interventions that, through WSCC and CDC collaborative working with wider stakeholders, can enable key projects identified in the Vision to progress
  • Chichester Southern Gateway – A key project within the Growth Deal to progress the Chichester Southern Gateway MasterPlan and identify a development partner to progress the most ambitious regeneration project in recent times for Chichester. The development would secure up to 360 city centre homes, new high value commercial space, retail and leisure development supported by improvements to sustainable transport and access.
  • Chichester Northern Gateway – Significant redevelopment opportunity at the  WSCC Fire and Rescue Service Headquarter building in addition to third party land supported by modifications to the Northern gyratory road layout to ensure high levels of connectivity between the site and the town centre.  Northern Gateway regeneration will deliver additional homes, employment space, retail and leisure facilities and sustainable access improvements within this key northern gateway to the city
  • Gigabit West Sussex Fibre Broadband – Ambitious proposals within the Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) Programme to connect selected public sector sites with gigabit capable full fibre infrastructure to meet the future needs of the county’s public services and providing the potential for further proposals to expand the network to wider stakeholders.
