Workforce, Employment and Skills

West Sussex County Council is committed to helping our businesses access the workforce they need in order to grow, to develop skills and opportunities for our residents.

The challenges of COVID-19 have had a marked impact on employment in West Sussex and we are seeing changes in workforce demands across the county as well as a rise in unemployment. The WSCC COVID-19 Insight Report: Current and Projected Employment Landscape in West Sussex ‘Where are we now', was developed following engagement with a wide range of partners and stakeholders across the county. It looks at the challenges faced by our businesses and residents and provides data about the impact of COVID. The second report in the series, WSCC COVID-19 Action Report: Opportunities for a Skills & Employment Reset in West Sussex, looks at solutions and provides a blueprint for activity, both for WSCC and for partners.

The West Sussex Journey to Work programme offers all West Sussex residents support in finding and applying for jobs, getting work ready and preparing for interviews and employment. Whether you are struggling to find work, have been made redundant or are considering getting back into work after a break, please get in touch. For more information please visit the websites below and make contact.

Young people (age 16-25) who are residents of West Sussex and are looking for work can visit their local Youth Hub.

If you’re a business looking to bring new talent into your organisation, you might be considering taking on a new Apprentice or offering an apprentice qualification to an existing member of staff. WSCC is an Apprenticeship Levy paying organisation and we are committed to transferring 25% of the levy each year to local businesses. This will cover the cost of training your apprentice.

If you’re a business or enterprise looking to benefit from an age diverse workforce, take a look at our case studies of West Sussex businesses that are making the most of the skills and experience of their aged 50+ employees, to benefit their organisations.
